Young Men And Fire

Original Airdate: May 22, 2000

Doherty stays overnight at Kim's. Later, at a fire in a high-rise apartment building, Doherty lowers himself from the rooftop to rescue Doc, Carlos and their patient, an elderly stroke victim. As Sully and Davis try to control onlookers, a man, Cregg (TOM GILROY), interferes, claiming to be a fireman. Later, Cregg reappears at another fire and tries to talk to the firemen, Doherty, Haffley (MICHAEL PORT) and Haspel (SCOTT FREEZE). When Doherty moves toward him, Cregg, who is actually a former fireman dismissed for erratic behavior, pulls out a gun and aims at Haffley. Doherty leaps for the weapon, and Cregg opens fire, killing Haffley and wounding Doherty and Haspel. Cregg ultimately kills himself. At Mercy, a groggy Doherty takes Kim's hand, kisses it and tells her that he has missed her. When Brooke enters, Kim exits, even though Doherty's look says he wants her to stay.

Meanwhile, Davis celebrates his one-year anniversary on the police force. To commemorate Davis' milestone, Sully gives him a lapel pin, once belonging to the rookie's father, that Maggie gave Sully after her husband's murder.

Yokas is not happy when she learns she's pregnant. Believing that she and Fred cannot afford another child, she doesn't tell him. But Bosco reminds her that her other children were not planned, yet she and Fred made everything work out well. Morales and Doc move into his father's apartment.
